Greater Shepparton City Council, situated in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, is the fourth largest provincial centre in Victoria and has a well-developed economy due to its strong agricultural and irrigation base, with major industries related to food processing, manufacturing and transport. The Goulburn Valley is often referred to as 'The Food Bowl of Australia' as around 25% of the total value of Victoria's agricultural production is generated in this area.

Greater Shepparton has a population of approximately 65,000, and an expenditure budget in excess of $118 million. The population is culturally diverse with 9.9% of residents being born overseas. The area has excellent education, recreation, cultural, social and health facilities and tourism is a developing focus for the region.

Project Coordinator - Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) Collection and Digitisation

Salary: $78, 552.76 per annum

Full Time – Temporary (2.5 years)

Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) is seeking a professional collections and digitisation specialist to join the SAM team. This recently created role, reporting to the SAM Director, will coordinate and undertake the SAM Art Collection Condition Assessment and Digitisation Project as SAM undertakes this exciting phase of transition from its current facility to a new landmark art museum in late 2020.

Established in 1936 the SAM Collection is recognised and celebrated as one of regional Australia’s finest art collections. With a growing collection of historic and contemporary paintings, prints and works on paper, the SAM Collection is one of Australia’s leading collections of historic and contemporary Australian ceramics.  As the Project Coordinator: SAM Collection and Digitisation you will bring your considerable experience and expertise to bear undertaking the condition assessment of the entire SAM Collection and digital capture of all artworks during the 3 year appointment. 

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and thorough understanding of collections management and the digitisation of cultural material.  You will have excellent organisational and time management skills with a proven record of successfully managing complex projects to realisation, particularly within strict timeframes.  Please refer to the position description for the role description and the list of selection criteria. Note:  This position is subject to a 6 month qualifying period in accordance with the Fair Work Australia minimum employment period.  During the qualifying period employees will be provided with appropriate on-going induction, support, assistance, resources and training to enable them to meet the required performance standards for the position.
