Greater Shepparton City Council, situated in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, is the fourth largest provincial centre in Victoria and has a well-developed economy due to its strong agricultural and irrigation base, with major industries related to food processing, manufacturing and transport. The Goulburn Valley is often referred to as 'The Food Bowl of Australia' as around 25% of the total value of Victoria's agricultural production is generated in this area.

Greater Shepparton has a population of approximately 65,000, and an expenditure budget in excess of $118 million. The population is culturally diverse with 9.9% of residents being born overseas. Building Coordinator

Salary: $112,511.36 per annum

Greater Shepparton City Council is seeking a highly motivated, organised and passionate Building Coordinator to join our busy Building Services Team within our Building and Planning Department.

The skills/qualifications experience required for the position are:

Victorian Building Authority Registration as a Building Surveyor Limited (class 1, 10, 2 to 9 up to 2000m2 and 3 storey buildings)

Key responsibilities of this dynamic position include:

  • Be available to undertake building inspections on at least 5 days per week to meet operational needs of the Building Services Team.
  • Undertake building inspections of class 1a, 10a and class 2 to 9 (up to 2000 m2 and 3 storey) building types to ensure compliance with the Building Act, Building Regulations, Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Undertake inspections of Essential Safety Measures in existing buildings, swimming pool safety barriers and illegal building works.
  • Provide timely and accurate advice to internal and external stakeholders on Building Regulations and Building Act and relevant legislation relating to limited building types.
  • Examine applications for building permits for class 1a, 10a and class 2 to 9 (up to 2000 m2 and 3 storey) building types and provide technical assessment results to Deputy Building Surveyor.
  • Attend to enquiries on building and associated matters promptly and efficiently either in person, on site, by telephone or other electronic means.
  • Examine applications for property information request, and sign technical letter sent to customer.
  • Examine applications for report and consent, and provide technical assessment, and sign council letter advising of consent or refusal of the application.

Note:  This position is subject to a 6 month qualifying period in accordance with the Fair Work Australia minimum employment period.  During the qualifying period employees will be provided with appropriate on-going induction, support, assistance, resources and training to enable them to meet the required performance standards for the position.
