Greater Shepparton City Council, situated in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, is the fourth largest provincial centre in Victoria and has a well-developed economy due to its strong agricultural and irrigation base, with major industries related to food processing, manufacturing and transport. The Goulburn Valley is often referred to as 'The Food Bowl of Australia' as around 25% of the total value of Victoria's agricultural production is generated in this area.
Greater Shepparton has a population of approximately 65,000, and an expenditure budget in excess of $118 million. The population is culturally diverse with 9.9% of residents being born overseas. Greater Shepparton City Council is seeking an accomplished and driven financial professional to join our Corporate Services Directorate as the Team Leader Financial Accounting. This leadership role is integral in delivering high-quality financial accounting services, including the preparation of statutory financial statements, oversight of external audits, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and legislative requirements.
As Team Leader, you will manage and inspire a skilled team to achieve excellence in financial reporting, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the Council’s general ledger and fixed assets register. You will play a key role in preparing and presenting financial information to stakeholders, safeguarding internal controls, and driving continuous improvement in financial systems and processes to meet the evolving needs of the organisation.
To excel in this role, you will be CPA or CA qualified, with a tertiary degree in accounting, business, or commerce, and at least three years of demonstrated experience in financial accounting. Expertise in preparing statutory financial statements, managing external audits, overseeing high volume accounts payable and implementing solutions for process optimisation in a complex organisation is essential. Strong analytical capabilities, outstanding communication skills, and a proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing team are key to your success.
